Parfums Najmi Bottle Under Starry Desert Sky

The meaning behing the name

Humanity & The Stars

Long before perfume existed as we know it, humanity was already in conversation with the stars. Long before names were written, we looked upward, to the infinite expanse of the night sky, for meaning, for beauty, for direction. The stars were our first storytellers, our first maps, our first guides through mystery and darkness. Across ancient civilizations, this fascination with the heavens shaped everything, from religion to art, from architecture to fragrance itself.

In Mesopotamia, where civilization first met the divine, the eight-pointed Star of Ishtar symbolized not only the goddess of beauty and love, but also the cosmic balance between heaven and earth. In Egypt, the stars were believed to be the souls of gods, eternal fires lighting the path to the afterlife.
The Greeks traced human destiny through constellations, turning myth into map, while Arab astronomers gave names to the stars that still guide modern navigation today.

For the ancient world, to follow the stars was not simply to travel, it was to seek understanding, to align one’s journey with the universe itself. For early astronomers in the Islamic Golden Age, the stars were sacred geometry, a perfect balance between science and faith. And in Christian tradition, the Star of Bethlehem guided the Magi across the desert in search of truth, hope, and revelation.

Eight-Point Star of Ishtar Ancient Symbol

The Meaning of Najmi & Our Symbol

This timeless gesture, to look upward, to search for one’s own guiding light, is the very heart of Parfums Najmi. In Arabic, Najmi means my star, something both personal and celestial, belonging to the vast and to the intimate at once. It is not the star, but my star, a light that belongs to you alone, the compass of your inner journey.

Our emblem, the eight-pointed star, carries this legacy. It is the star of Ishtar, yes, but it is also the compass rose, the mark that guided sailors across uncharted waters, pointing always to truth and direction. It embodies balance and orientation: between sky and sea, spirit and matter, East and West.
It is the symbol that unites all that we are, explorers of emotion, seekers of beauty, and believers in the unseen forces that connect us all.

The Age of Discovery

Both founders of Parfums Najmi were born in France, yet their roots extend deeply across the Mediterranean, into lands shaped by exploration, trade, and discovery. One founder carries Portuguese heritage, descended from a people whose destiny was written in the stars and on the sea.

During the Age of Discovery, Portuguese navigators left the safety of their coasts and followed constellations into the vast unknown, guided only by courage, curiosity, and faith in the light above them. They crossed oceans not merely to map the world, but to connect it, bringing back treasures that changed the course of history: spices, woods, and incense from Arabia, India, and the Far East. The air of Lisbon once smelled of cinnamon, sandalwood, myrrh, and oud, the same notes that now echo in our perfumes. That legacy of exploration, of seeking the unseen and translating it into beauty, lives at the core of what we create today.

Italian Heritage & Trade With The middle East

The other founder bears Italian blood, and with it, the memory of Venetian and Genoese merchants who mastered the art of exchange. From the docks of Venice and the ports of Genoa, ships once sailed through the Mediterranean and beyond, carrying glass, silk, and amber along the same routes that brought incense, perfume oils, and precious resins from the East. It was through these journeys that Europe discovered the richness of oriental scent, the warm depth of amber, the sacred allure of oud, the sensuality of spice.

Figures like Marco Polo were not merely travelers, but storytellers of the senses, men who brought back not only materials, but ideas, cultures, and fragrances that reshaped Europe’s imagination of beauty. That same sense of connection, the dialogue between continents, between history and desire, runs through every creation of Parfums Najmi.

Following Our Star

Both of us, modern sons of the Mediterranean, have followed our own stars. We have traveled across more than fifty countries, from the sunlit coasts of Europe to the vast deserts of Arabia, from Asia’s temples to the islands of the Indian Ocean.
Everywhere we’ve been, we’ve found a piece of inspiration, a scent in the air, a spice in the market, a story whispered through the wind.
Each journey left a trace, invisible yet permanent, shaping our understanding of beauty and meaning.

Parfums Najmi is the continuation of that voyage, not across oceans, but through emotion. We no longer trade spices or incense, but the essence they left behind: the feeling of wonder, of distance, of belonging to something greater than oneself. Each perfume is a constellation, a meeting of memory and material, a blend of heritage and imagination. And like the mariners and merchants before us, we continue to navigate, guided by our star, guided by light.

Our philosophy

For us, the star is not a decoration, it is a philosophy. It is the fil rouge that connects everything we do: our name, our design, our creative vision. It reminds us that perfume, like starlight, travels silently through time and space, carrying emotion long after its source is gone. It is both science and poetry, both guide and mystery. It stands for exploration, creation, and the eternal human need to find beauty in the unknown.

Parfums Najmi is not just a name. It is an invitation, to follow your own star, to listen to its quiet pull, and to let scent become your compass. Because in the end, every fragrance tells a story, and every story begins with a light in the dark.
